Up to 160 jobs at risk as Ted Bakers announces shake-up

Introduction

I initially saw an article on this from the Evening Standard newspaper on Wednesday 26 February 2020.

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Ted Baker have decided to do a shake-up, which will cause up to 160 jobs to be at risk.

Where and when will these up to 160 jobs go?

This article from the Retail Gazette website claims that there is a possibility of at least 102 at their Head Office, according to reports that they have seen.

The reports they have seen mentions that there is a possibility that Ted Bakers currently live vacancies could also be scrapped.

How would this affect the 160 Ted Baker employees?

Either way, Ted Baker employees and potential employees would not have jobs to go to, and for those who are currently employed there, they will go from being in paid employment to claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits) at just over £300 per month.

They would also be affected mentally and physically.

Who else would this affect?

It’s not just the Ted Baker employees who would be affected. Here’s a a list of others who would go without clothes for a while:

Customers – If Ted Baker goes through with these job losses, then customers are more likely going to have issues getting through, especially to Head Office. There is also a higher chance of the customers doing their shopping elsewhere, at other clothing stores, which could be more expensive to them because of travelling costs and the costs of the clothing that they require.

The Government – With these job cuts, the Government would not receive taxes from the affected Ted Baker employees, and the Government would have to pay out just over £300 per person per month, until those affected employees have found alternative employment elsewhere.

I am one of the affected Ted Baker employees. What can I do to seek alternative employment elsewhere?

There are other clothing companies around, like Primark, who require you to apply online.

The best thing to do though, is to research the companies so you know hoe you would need to apply for positions. The research can be completed online or, as I prefer, in person (Company Hunts).
