Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Co-op will be recruiting 5,000 new temporary employees at their stores to those who lost their jobs at other companies, due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Where and when will Co-op create the 5,000 temporary store-based positions?

This blog from the Retail Gazette website only mentions that these 5,000 new jobs are store-based and fails to mention exact locations and when co-op would create and recruit the 5,000 new temporary employees.

How would this benefit the 5,000 new temporary employees at Co-op?

It would help the 5,000 new temporary Co-op employees by getting them back into employment after they lost their jobs at other companies. This means that they would be able to continue earning money for the time being, instead of claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits) at just over £300 per month.

According to this blog article from the Retail Gazette, the recruitment process at Co-op will be making it simplified so the 5,000 successful temporary Co-op employees can get to work within days of applying.

Who else would this benefit?

It’s not just the 5,000 temporary Co-op employees who would benefit from this. Here’s a list of others who would also benefit:

Customers – With more Co-op employees, not only would customers get help with their shopping (if they need it), customers would also have more products replenished on the shelves, ready for them to purchase.

Co-op – Co-op should be able to make more of a profit from making more sales.

The Government – The Government would continue receiving taxes from the 5,000 new temporary Co-op employees for the time being. The Government would also not need to pay out just over £300 per person, per month in Universal Credit payments.
