Amazon workers in Coventry to down tools again as strike action continues

Retail Gazette, Friday 26 January 2024, Viewed: Friday 02 February 2024

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because employees Amazon in their Coventry in depot are to go on strike again.

What are your thoughts on this?

Are you kidding me?

You were telling me that you have been striking on and off for the last year and gotten nowhere.

If you keep striking and Amazon are not doing anything about it, why you still at Amazon?

If you do not like working for a company for any reason, it is common sense for you to leave and find another job that you are happy with.

To me, it certainly looks like that the employees have the capability of common sense. This is a shame to mankind.

Amazon warehouse strikes to extend to Birmingham in 2024

Retail Gazette, Wednesday 20 December 2023, Viewed: Tuesday 02 January 2024

Why did this article catch your attention?

Is article caught my attention because Amazon employees are still continuing to strike, and has an expanded to their strikes to their flagship fulfillment Centre in Birmingham.

What are your thoughts on Amazon still striking?

It was rediculous at the beginning, when they started striking over pay. But now that it has expanded further, it is pathetic and childish.

Yes, I agree that pay is important. However, if you are in paid employment and earning at least the minimum wage, there is no need to complain. You are still earning money.

The way I look at it is … The more that people strike over pay, the more it concerns me. If wages goes up, then prices of everything goes up. I need to stop thinking too much about themselves and think how it would affect everybody else.

Amazon workers begin Black Friday strikes across the UK

Retail Gazette, Friday 24 November 2023, Viewed: Thursday 07 December 2023

Why did this article catch your attention?

Is article called my attention because employees Amazon or to go on strike around the time Black Friday happens. This would be across the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States of America.

What are your thoughts on this?

The way I look at it is, there are people out there who are unemployed and claiming benefits. Claiming benefits means less money compared to wages.

Strikes over pay our pathetic, as these employees have got a job to do and they are getting paid to do their jobs.

Try claiming benefits, if at all, come back to everybody and tell us what it feels like claiming benefits and not having enough money.

Amazon workers in Coventry target Black Friday for further strike action

Retail Gazette, Tuesday 10 October 2023, Viewed: Wednesday 11 October 2023

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because more than 1,000 Amazon employees at Coventry Distribution Centre are to go on strike over 4 days throughout November, including Black Friday.

What are your thoughts on this?

Strikes are a pathetic excuse to get out of work, especially when it comes to wages.

These Amazon employees have jobs to do, and actually get paid for doin their jobs. Amazon, as well as other companies, should have the right to sack anybody who decide to go on strike over pay.

There are so many people out there still not on employment, getting much less money than what these Amazon employees are getting from working. Yet people shame the unemployed for not finding employment.

To the Amazon employees going on strike … Get back to work!! There is no need to strike!

1,200 Amazon jobs at risk with closure of UK warehouses

i, Wednesday 11 January 2023, #3,786, p45

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Amazon are in the planning process of closing three of its Warehouse, causing more than 1200 jobs to be cut.

Where and when would these Amazon warehouses close down?

The 3 Amazon warehouses that are in the planning process of closing down are located in:

  • Doncaster
  • Gourock, Scotland
  • Hemel Hempstead

However, this article from the i newspaper fails to mention when these Amazon warehouses would close down.

How would this affect the 1,200 Amazon employees?

This would affect the 1,200 Amazon employees in big ways. Financially moreso, as they would go from being in paid employment to claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits).

Being in warehouse work, it is a physical and repetitive, so the employees would also be affected physically.

With job search struggling, it is going to be a lot harder to find employment, but there are still warehouse jobs still going.

Who else would this affect?

It’s not just the 1,200 Amazon employees who would be affected by this. Here’s a list of others who would also be affected:

  • Customers – With 1,200 Amazon employees potentially having their jobs cut, customers may have to wait longer to receive their parcels and packages. Also, if there are any problems, and have to speak to one of the management team, it may also take long to get through to them.
  • Landlords – With these 3 warehouses potentially closing down, the Landlords would not receive any rent from Amazon, and would have to look for another company to rent their premises out to.
  • Families – These 1,200 Amazon employees may need to borrow money from their respective family members for things like food, rent, and other household bills. This money will need to be paid back as soon as possible.
  • The Government – The Government would not receive any taxes from any of the 1,200 Amazon employees until they have found alternative employment elsewhere, and would have to pay out money in Universal Credit payments.

I am one of the 1,200 affected Amazon employees. What can I do to seek alternative employment elsewhere?

There are other companies out there who deal with warehouse work. For example, you have parcel and logistics companies, like DHL, DPD and Tuffnells. All of which require you to apply on their respective careers pages. However, they all do use Recruitment Agencies, so so keep an eye out on Job Boards for these jobs.

Amazon workers to strike over pay

i, Wednesday 25 January 2023, #3,798, p10

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Amazon employees are to strike over pay.

What are your thoughts on this?

Not another one striking over pay?

There are people out there who don’t have jobs and claiming Universal Credit from the Government, or claiming benefits at all.

Imagine having little or no money whatsoever. Imagine yourselves in that position.

Those who strike, I feel, must be sacked and get banned from claiming any sort of benefits.

If you don’t like the amount that you’re getting paid, find another job. It’s as simple as that!

Use your brains will you!!

Amazon to axe over 18,000 jobs in a bid to cut costs, CEO says

Retail Gazette, January 5, 2023, Viewed: Sunday 08 January 2023

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article call my attention because Amazon I to cut 18000 jobs because of the economy issues.

Where and when will these 18,000 jobs to be cut?

This article from Retail Gazette mentions, though it is not confirmed where the 18,000 Amazon employees would lose their jobs, it has said that it would include Europe.

These jobs will be cut before Wednesday 18 January 2023.

How would this affect the 18,000 Amazon employees?

This would affect the 18,000 Amazon employees in massively, especially financially. They would go from being in paid employment to either claiming benefits or having no income at all, depending on the country they are in.

Still with not many jobs available, this would put a lot of stress on these 18,000 Amazon employees, potentially causing mental health issues.

They could also be affected physically.

Who else would this affect?

It’s not just the 18,000 Amazon employees who would be affected by this. Here’s a list of others who will also be affected:

  • Customers – Customers are more likely to struggle to get through to the remaining members of employees at Amazon when they require any help. This would mean that customers are more likely to consider doing their online shopping elsewhere with another company altogether. This will then have more of a domino effect on Amazon.
  • Families – The families may need to lend money to their respective va family members who are affected due to lack of money to pay for the rent, household bills and other essentials. This money would have to be paid back.
  • The Governments – The different Governments from the different countries where these jobs would be cut would be affected, more so because they would not receive taxes. However, those countries who give out benefits to job seekers, would need to pay out money to support those job seekers.

I am one of the 18,000 Amazon employees. What can I do to seek alternative employment elsewhere?

By the sounds of it it is not going to be easy to get a job in any country.

However in the United Kingdom, I know that there are other industries that these affected employees would be able to take up with skills that they have. However, if they do not have the relevant skills some of the jobs do not require any experience, and training would be provided.

For example, warehousing and construction industries do not generally require you to have experience, but qualifications would come in handy. Generally, in construction you would need a CSCS card. For the general labourer CSCS card you can get a red 6 month card or a green 5 year card.

Amazon to launch 1,500 UK apprenticeships

Metro, Thursday, February 3, 2022, p2

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Amazon are to start recruiting 1,500 Apprentices throughout the UK in 2022 .

Where and when will Amazon recruit the 1,500 new Apprentices?

This article the Metro newspaper fails mention where and when Amazon would recruit the 1,500 new Apprentices.

What does this mean for the 1,500 new Amazon Apprentices?

Though on a lower hourly rate, these 1,500 Amazon Apprentices would benefit massively, moreso when it comes to finances. They would go from being in education or claiming Universal Credit to earning money whilst they are learning on the job.

Who else would this benefit?

It’s not just the 1,500 Amazon Apprentices who would benefit from this. Here’s a list of others who would also benefit:

  • Customers – With more employees at amazon, customers would be able to get there purchased products processed and received sooner.
  • Sellers – Similar to customers, sellers would be able to get their sold products processed quicker.
  • The Government – The Government may or may not received taxes from the 1,500 amazon Apprentices, depending on the amount of money the Apprentices are earning. The Government would not need to pay out any money in Universal Credit payments, also depending on how much thes Apprentices earn.

I am interested in applying for one of these Apprentice positions at also. What do I need to do to apply?

I have noticed that on Indeed, amazon uses what looks like a Recruitment Agency to hire new employees. So, take a look on Indeed.

Amazon workers in Coventry warehouse vote to strike in UK first

Retail Gazette, 16 December 2022, Viewed: Saturday 17 December 2022

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Amazon workers at their Coventry warehouse have rejected 50 pence per hour pay rise and have decided to go on strike.

What are your thoughts on Amazon workers strike over this 50p per hour pay rise?

To strike is bad enough comma to strike over just 50 pence per hour is pathetic.

There are people out there who are unemployed and have no or very little income. And a lot of those, I feel, would want to be out working earn more money then they already on.

In my honest opinion, the Amazon workers who decide to strike should get sacked from their jobs and replaced by people who actually want to work!

125 retailers went bust in the last year

125 in administration in 2018
Daily Mail, Saturday, January 5, 2019, p5

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because 125 companies entered administration and went bust in 2018.

What companies went bust in 2018?

Some of the companies include:

  • Coast (300 employees)
  • House of Fraser (approx. 6,000 employees)
  • Maplin (approx. 2,500 employees)
  • Poundworld (4,000+ employees)
  • Toys ‘R’ Us (approx. 3,000 employees)

The full list of companies who went into administration are listed on Retail Research’s website.

The page is very long because it goes back as far as 2010.

How many employees were affected?

With the companies I have mentioned before the full list, there were 16,800+ employees affected from those stores alone.

According to Retail Research’s website, 43 companies were failing, which affected 2,594 stores and 46,014 employees.

Who else has this affected?

It’s not just the 46,014 employees who were affected though. Here is a list of others who might have been affected:

Customers – Customers may have to travel further to purchase, which would be costing extra for both fuel and time. The could order online, but stay at home, missing time for work, etc..

Employees’ families – They may have lent money to their respective, family members who were affected by companies going into administration.

Towns and Cities – With 125 companies going into administration, including 26 large companies who had 10 or more stores, this would be empty premises in towns and cities. This would make it look more like ghost towns and cities.

Landlords – Following on from towns and cities, landlords would not receive rent from anybody for the empty premises they have, until a company decides that they want to rent it out.

The Government (via companies) – With 125 companies going bust, they would not receive taxes from any of the companies, unless any of the companies decide that they want to be revived. Maplin is a good example of this.

The Government (via employees) – The Government would not receive taxes from any of the employees, until the employees have found alternative employment elsewhere. The government would also have to pay out Universal Credit (unemployment benefits) to the affected employees, until the employees have found alternative employment elsewhere.

Amazon starts search for second HQ

i, Friday 8 September 2017, number 2,119, p25

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my wall because Amazon are looking for a second location for their HQ, where there will be up to 50,000 new jobs.

Who would benefit from this?

People who are seeking work can apply for one of these 50,000 new jobs, where they can get the experience they need, and also have an income.

The new staff who deal with the customer service, will help customers, which will mean the customers would also benefit from this expansion. This will mean that more customers might do more shopping through Amazon.

This will also benefit Amazon with their profits.

Where would Amazon’s second HQ be based?

Amazon have given a few hints about where it would set up its second HQ, which will be somewhere in North America.
