Wanted: couple to run island pub

Lundy pub
i, Friday 2 August 2019, Number 2,711, p21

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Marisco Tavern, a local pub, are looking for a couple to run it.

Where will this take place?

Marisco Tavern and the jobs will be on the island of Lundy, 12 miles north of Devon.

When will this happen?

According to the Morning Advertiser article online, applications were to be submitted by Friday 02 August 2019.

Who would benefit from this?

It would benefit both of the new employees, as well as the locals who visit the local pub.

Would you apply for this job?

This job requires two people (a couple) to run it. I would love to run the pub but, unfortunately, I don’t have a partner to help run it with me.

Notes

On the Morning Advertiser article online, it says:

There is no jukebox, no fruit machine and no television, nothing to distract from the old-age pleasures of human communication – the ban on the use of modern electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart phones and laptop computers is rigorously enforced.

I am shocked by this, but I do agree with it.

I Completed a Company Hunt in Horsham, and Here’s What Happened (Part 1)

Why did you complete a Company Hunt in Horsham on Thursday 05 September 2019?

I completed a Company Hunt in Horsham on Thursday 05 September 2019 because I needed to go to further afield to complete my job search. And, as I had a few pounds to spare and a 50% off discount card for train tickets. The full price of the ticket was £7.60 and I actually paid £3.80.

Where in Horsham did you visit?

Initially, at 08:30, I visited Foundry Land (et al) and Parsonage Way (et al) for the first part of this Company Hunt in Horsham.

Total Jobs: Record number of jobs advertised

Total Jobs
Metro, Wednesday, January 10, 2018, p18

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because of the number of vacancies advertised on Total Jobs as at a record high for the first week of the year, which was a real surprise to me, as job boards are genereally quieter after Christmas and New Year.

Who might be interested in this article?

Obviously, active jobseekers would be interested in this article, as they need and want a job to gain essential experience, knowledge and skills. Not forgetting an income from the company that they would work for. This would mean that there would be much fewer people claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits), which would also be a great thing.

What does this mean for jobseekers?

As I mentioned in my last answer, jobseekers would become employed and stop claiming Universal Credit, where they can gain experience, knowledge, skills and get paid for it.

‘Golden age’ of travel helps Hilton to plan 34 more hotels in UK

Hilton
i, Monday 25 September 2017, Number 2,133, p43

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because Hilton are doing very well for themselves and are planning to expand with ’34 more hotels in UK’.

What does this mean?

This means that, once the process of the new hotels have started, Hilton will be hiring new employees from Managers to Receptionists, Bar Staff to Housekeepers which, in term, means that there will be much fewer people claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits).

What needs to be considered / done now?

Planning is extremely important because Hilton don’t want to go downhill because of mistakes. So things like planning locations, building work, recruiting and providing excellent Customer Service are essential.

When should this happen?

Simple answer: right now!

If planning needs to be quick, then there is a higher risk of mistakes.

CV Drops: Local Shops of Crawley 05/12/17

Aim: To find a suitable vacancy by visiting companies speculatively, by handing out my CV.

Following on from the last CV Drop of the local shops of Crawley on Thursday 30 November 2017, I completed another one.

I wanted to continue doing something different, when it came to CV Drops. I wanted to continue to investigate what companies at local parades of shops around Crawley, to help me look for suitable work.

Why did you want to continue to do something different?

I wanted to continue to do something different because, again, it is out of my comfort zone.

How did you plan for the CV Drop?

I found it easier to plan today’s CV Drop, as it was a continuation of the last CV Drop I completed.

I had not visited some of these parades of shops on me own before, so it is a new experience for me.

Where did you visit for the CV Drop?

This list is the list of the local parade of shops I visited:

  • Maidenbower (#100 bus)
  • Pound Hill (#4/5 bus)
  • Three Bridges (#4/5/100 bus)

For Maidenbower, I vaguely remember seeing the #100 bus going around a section of the parade car park. On the occasion it didn’t, but found out that the bus stop was only around the corner.

Pound Hill has three parades of shops, one of which I visited last time. I visited the other two today.

What kind of vacancies were there available?

For today, there were no vacancies available, however March & Sons (BDC hardware) may have a vacancy coming up.

Six companies, including March & Sons accepted my CV.

    Notes

I liaised with the staff of all levels and gathered details of vacancies and how to apply, which I constructed in notes on this information.

For those companies that have no vacancies available, I attempted to generate other leads to other companies with vacancies available. Only one company suggested other companies to apply to.

    Conclusion

I believe I successfully accomplished certain parts of this task I set out to do, as I managed to come out of my comfort zone, but I unfortunately did not come away with any information about any current vacancies.  On the other hand, I am happy I handed six CV’s to potential employers.

I was as logical as possible in how I went about this and I believe I was energetic and enthusiastic when I ask about vacancies, which I took accurate notes on.

    What next?

There are a few tasks I will need to complete:

    • Present my findings / results to my Job Centre Plus advisor at my next appointment

[UPDATED] CV Drop: Local Shops of Crawley (30/11/17)

Aim: To find a suitable vacancy by visiting companies speculatively, by handing out my CV.

I wanted to try something different, when it came to CV Drops. I wanted to investigate what companies at local parades of shops around Crawley, to help me look for suitable work.

I went into Crawley Town Centre to deal with a few personal tasks, then took this CV Drop from there.

Why did you want to try something different?

I wanted to try something different because it is out of my comfort zone.

How did you plan for the CV Drop?

I found it difficult to plan this CV Drop, as I have not completed a CV Drop like this before.

I had not visited some of these parades of shops on me own before, so it is a new experience for me.

Where did you visit for the CV Drop?

This list is the list of the local parade of shops I visited:

    • Furnace Green (#2 bus)
    • Maidenbower (#100 bus)
    • Pound Hill, Peterhouse Parade (#4/5 bus)

For Maidenbower, I vaguely remember seeing the #100 bus going around a section of the parade car park. However, on this occasion it didn’t, so I was unable to find vacancies at Maidenbower.

Pound Hill have three parades of shops, but only visited one.

What kind of vacancies were there available?

For today, there were not many vacancies available, but I did find:

      • Bar work
      • Chef

      Notes

I liaised with the staff of all levels and gathered details of vacancies and how to apply, which I constructed in notes on this information.

For those companies that have no vacancies available, I attempted to generate other leads to other companies with vacancies available. Only one company suggested other companies to apply to.

      Conclusion

I believe I successfully accomplished certain parts of this task I set out to do, as I managed to come out of my comfort zone, but I only received information about two vacancies from one company out of the many companies I attended.

I was as logical as possible in how I went about this and I believe I was energetic and enthusiastic when I ask about vacancies, which I took accurate notes on

      What next?

There are a few tasks I will need to complete:

      • Continue with CV Drops tomorrow – Maidenbower, two Pound Hill, West Green (Friday 01 December 2017 – failed on this date)

[UPDATE] Job Interview 12/06/17: Six Degrees

I had my second interview today at 11:00 since September 2016.

What job was the interview for?

The interview was for a job I applied for, which was a bar person at Six Degrees, in Crawley town centre.

Why did you apply for the bar person position?

I applied to become a bar person because I would like to expand my experience within different roles.

How do you think the interview went?

Today’s interview went very well. I think it was the best interview I have had.

The interviewer was friendly and is prepared to help if I require any help.

What questions did the interviewer ask?

The interviewer asked why I applied for the bar person position. I explained that I want to expand my experience within a different field.

      What is the next step?

The interviewer has said she will contact me at 16:00. If I get the job, I would do 2 days trial on Friday night and Saturday night to see how it goes.
