Following on from the New Start New Opportunity Job Fair yesterday, here are the Key Competencies I used:

Apart from the drizzling rain, I think today’s Company Hunt in Crawley Town Centre went really well, considering I only went out to look for posters for vacancies.
Though there were not as many vacancies as I would have liked to see, I am definitely happy with this amount of vacancies available.

There were only 2 companies who had vacancies, but here are some leaflets that I picked up that shows more information about the companies that attended:

How do you think the New Start New Opportunity Job Fair went?
I feel that it went really well, considering it was only a small Job Fair with only 8 companies attending.
I am generally used to the bigger Job Fairs, where it is very busy and claustrophobic.
Though Timpsons declined straight away, I am happy that I went to see them. I am also happy that I also spoke to Consort, though they only had multi-drop vacancies available today. They would start taking on for other positions in the middle of January.
Poor interviews can ‘put jobseekers off’

This article caught my attention because almost half of job seekers have had bad experiences with potential employers, in regards to the recruitment process. It has been noted that it is generally affecting older job seekers who are more affected.
What are your thoughts on this?
I have noticed this, even whilst I am in my 30s.
I feel that it has become worse than when I first started being an active job seeker.
A lot more of the recruitment process is online nowadays, with some companies still accepting CVs. There is a lot less interaction and communication from potential employers.
I have noticed that companies generally do not respond to applications any more. Yes, I understand that there are more and more applicants looking for employment, but it is common courtesy to respond by an e-mail that takes less than 30 seconds to write to decline their application, along with a reason.

Mango would open more than 20 new stores this year throughout the UK, especially in London and Scotland.
How many employees would Mango recruit?
This article from Retail Gazette fails to mention how many employees that Mango would recruit.
How would this benefit the new Mango employees?
This would benefit the Mango employees massively, especially when it comes to finances. They would go for claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits) to being in paid employment.
Working in Retail, employees are generally on their feet for the majority of their shifts. This means that the Mango employees could potentially be better off physically.
Mentally, it is better to be in paid employment, rather than being an active job seeker.
Who else would this benefit?
It is not just the Mango employees who would benefit from this. Here’s a list of others who would also benefit:
- Customers – Customers would have more stores to visit to purchase what they are looking for, and would be able to have more of a variety of products to choose from.
- Landlords – Landlords would receive rent from Mango for their empty commercial properties.
- Towns and Cities – Following on from Landlords, towns and cities would look less like ghost towns and cities.
- The Government – The Government would receive taxes after the Mango employees earn enough money to hit the tax threshold. The Government would also not have to pay out money in Universal Credit payments.

However, in my opinion, completing Company Hunts (finding vacancies personally) would be the best option for stop you would get immediate responses on what vacancies are available, how to apply, and potentially who to apply to. Preferably on foot, but via telephone also works, but not as well.
