This is a re-post of How do you stay organised?, which was published on Tuesday 04 October 2022 at 11:00.

I stay organised by prioritising what I need to do do, as well as knowing where everything is.

This means on a knowing where everything is and know what I need to do as soon as possible.

From there, I make sure I prioritise my workload, so I can make sure that all tasks are completed effectively and effortless.

This is a re-post of How do you feel about working in a team environment?, which was published on Monday 10 May 2021.

I really enjoy working as part of a team, even when I was a Merchandising Team Leader at MSS

Working in a team, I am able to show my skills and witness other team members’ skills, which can improve my own skills.

Also, working as part of a team means that more tasks are covered and completed quicker.

This is a re-post of Do you set goals for yourself and how do you do that?, which was published on Wednesday 01 September 2021 at 18:00.

I always try to set myself goals to challenge myself.

With the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and my job search, my local library only gave one hour slots for computers each day (generally over five days per week).

On Sunday’s, I wrote down a list of every task that I needed and wanted to accomplish whilst online. I then prioritised them from the most important to the least important and Handwrote the tasks in my diary for when I would complete the tasks. I did generally complete all of the tasks I set out to complete on time or early. However, there was the odd day where I was too ambitious, where I could not complete the odd task.

For my offline job search, I would do the same as I have just mentioned.

Company Hunt: March 2021 (Conclusion)

It was once again pretty training comma mentally for me when I call all of the 50 companies over the last week. I feel that it was not as successful as february’s company hand. So let’s take a look back at for information I received over the last week:

  • 3 names of people I can (and will) contact.
  • 1 e-mail address (and 2 more I had previously), of which the one I received this week was generic (sales HR, etc.).
  • 2 Human Resources telephone numbers (mobile).
  • 8 companies would advertised on their respective websites.

Here’s what else happened:

  • 7 unrecognised telephone numbers.
  • 6 telephone numbers kept ringing.
  • 2 had funny noises instead of a ringtone.
  • 1 recorded message.

What Next?

  • Call both of the Human Resources telephone numbers (mobile) on Wednesday 10 March 2021.
  • E-mail my CV to the email address and the two I had previously when my local library re-opens.
  • Research alternative telephone numbers for those telephone numbers that were unrecognised, kept ringing, and made funny noises when my local library reopens.

Key Competencies

  • Being Well Informed: I was informed how I should apply for vacancies, who to contact, and how I should contact them.
  • Communication Skills: I asked relevant questions to help me find the information I needed, where I listened and took notes. I thanked everybody at the end of every conversation for their time.
  • Customer Service: I was polite and professional when making these telephone calls.
  • Decision Making: I decided to complete this company Hunt and the order I made the calls.
  • Initiative: I planned and executed this Company Hunt on my own, without anybody asking me to to or watching over me.
  • Organisational Skills: After I decided to complete this Company Hunt, I organised the companies I wanted to call into a suitable order. By the end of this Company Hunt, I also organised who I need to contact, and how.
  • Research: I was able to find out what companies have vacancies (or not), who to contact and how to contact them.
  • Results & Target Orientated: Even though I didn’t get a job out of this Company Hunt, I did get several telephone numbers for Head Offices and Human Resources as well as names and e-mail addresses.
  • Stress Management: I hate making and receiving calls as it does stress me out, as well as mentally drain me enough that I want to fall asleep. To manage this, I take a 5 minute break after every fourth call or so.
  • Time Management: I set the goal to complete this Company Hunt before calling the companies and concluded each part of the series at the end of each blog post. I then completed a bigger conclusion at the very end.

Company Hunt: February 2021 (Conclusion)

Once again, and as usual, it was mentally draining for me when I called all of these companies over the last week. However, I do feel that he was successful in my opinion. So, let’s take a look back at all information I received over the last week:

  • 6 names of people I can (and will) contact.
  • 9 e-mail addresses I can (and will) e-mail my CV to, of which six were generic e-mail addresses (sales, HR, etc.).
  • 1 Human Resources telephone number (mobile).
  • 14 companies would advertise vacancies on their respective websites.
  • 3 companies would advertise on job boards (Indeed).

Here’s what else happened:

  • 2 unrecognised telephone numbers.
  • 2 telephone numbers kept ringing.
  • 2 telephone numbers went into answerphone.
  • 1 company rejected my call thrice.

What Next?

  • Call the Human Resources telephone number (mobile) on Tuesday 16 February 2021.
  • E-mail my CV to the 6 e-mail addresses when my local library re-opens.

Company Hunt: February 2021 (Part 2)

Introduction

This is Part 2 of a second series of Company Hunts, which I decided on Saturday is 06 February 2021.

Why did you continue a Company Hunt on Tuesday 09 February 2021?

Like I mentioned several times before, the main reason why I continued this Company Hunt, like any other Company Hunts, was to get a job. However, as I stand, calling companies to enquire about vacancies currently my main option for my job search.

What companies did you contact?

For Tuesday 09 November 2021, I contacted the following companies:

  • BEW Electrical Distribution Ltd
  • Edmundson Electrical
  • GEW (EC) Ltd
  • Niton Equipment
  • Rentokil Initial
  • Rexel
  • Rossetts Commercial
  • Sussex Carpet Centre
  • Toolstation Crawley
  • Wolseley

What vacancies were available?

5 companies had no vacancies whatsoever, but one company said but I could call in 6 weeks’ time and another said to keep an eye out on their social media pages. The third said it online come up but I could send in a CV and cover letter to the Site Manager.

2 other companies were online, but 1 name and e-mail address were received for me to send the CV to.

1 explained that they used Indeed (Job Board) to advertise their jobs.

I did get passed / forwarded onto a Human Resources (HR) person, but it went into voicemail, which gave me the mobile number. I also received another email address to send my CV to.

Conclusion

Today’s Company Hunt was another very successful Company Hunt.

The best thing about today’s company Hunt, in my opinion, was when I received 2 names.

I’m really pleased about the result / outcome of today’s Company Hunt and I feel that each Company Hunt should be like today Company Hunt.

With Thanks

I would like to thank everybody who answered the telephone, and who I spoke to today. I really do appreciate everybody answering my calls and answering my enquiries about employment at each of the companies you work for.

Thank you all so much.

Company Hunt: February 2021 (Part 1)

Introduction

This is part one another series of company hunts, which I decided on Saturday 06 February 2021.

Why do you complete a Company Hunt on Monday 08 February 2021?

I completed the Company Hunt on Monday 08 February 2021 for many reasons. However, and main reason was to find suitable employment as soon as possible. Other reasons included:

  • Due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, I have been at home most of the time, trying to complete other parts of my job search.
  • No computer or internet access.

How did the Company Hunt come up?

The same way it came up previously on the last Company Hunt series.

As I have stayed at home most of the time, with a computer or internet access, I thought I should complete another Company Hunt.

As part of this series, I decided to call 10 companies per day.

What companies did you contact?

For Monday 08 February 2021, I contacted the following companies:

  • Avensys
  • CGG
  • Creative Technology
  • Elekta
  • Euro Car Parts
  • Intercleanse Ltd
  • Plumbase
  • Remmers (UK) Ltd
  • Varian Medical Systems UK Ltd
  • Welland Medical Ltd

What vacancies were available?

There was quite a variety of responses today, which I was surprised about.

2 require me to go online to see what vacancies are available, 1 of which confirmed their Manufacturing Manager still works and after I found their name and monks old job search paperwork I had some before.

3 of the companies gave me e-mail addresses and asked me to send my CV, 1 of which users Search Consultancy (a Recruitment Agency) for production jobs.

1 company asked me for my contact details and National Insurance (NI) number, which I duly did and I asked if I had a CSCS card. It sounded like they would get in touch with me if anything arises.

2 of the company’s telephone numbers went into answerphone.

Conclusion

Today’s telephone based Company Hunt was the most productive Company Hunt I have had. Well … over the telephone anyway.

I do feel sorry for those employees who were made redundant and I hope they find something very soon.

Got to keep going, regardless of what the outcome is but any the Company Hunts I do.

With Thanks

I would like to thank everybody I spoke to you today. I do appreciate your help.

Even want picking up the telephone and explaining there are no vacancies at that present time helps.

Thank you.

Time Management: Blogging

On my blog, I blog about things, such as my employment experiences, Key Competencies, parts my job search and more.

I needed to aim for a minimum of 1,000 words per day, for 5 days per week.

When I was in employment, I took notes on what tasks are completed and when. After every weeks’ worth of employment, I can’t read how many words I handwrote. When I had a day off or time to myself, I went through newspapers to see what I can blog about. I cut out and referenced the ones I could blog about. I would then sit down with my trusted notepads, and pen and planned and hand write blog posts from the newspaper articles I found. Once I completed at least 10 blog posts, I calculated how many words I wrote for each of them and organised them from the highest number of words to the lowest. From there, I picked out four or five posts, totalling 1,000 words and put them in order in one of my blogging folders.

Due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and my local library being closed, I managed to complete 11 weeks’ worth of blogging with a majority being at least 1,000 words per day.

Time Management: Salvation Army

When I was merchandising ladies clothes on the shop floor, I noticed that the bric-a-brac shelves were a complete mess and felt that needed a major tidy up. I suggested to this Assistant Shop Manager and gave him a target 2 days for me to get tidied. He agreed.

I need to tidy the bric-a-brac shelves (5×5) within 2 day.

I decided to clear 2 of the shelves on a bottom level for china sets. I cleared the shelves and placed the china sets carefully on both of the bottom shelves. This saved me room on other shelves. The two shelves above, I’ve cleared and cleaned before I carefully placed single plates and bowls. The same again was completed for the next 2 shelves above that the glasses (wine etc.). From there I started going across (right), cleaning the shelves and filling them up in an orderly fashion. Other bric-a-brac included toys, puzzles and cups.

I completed the merchandising in one and a half days, and managed to get twice as much stock on to the shelves with three quarters of it being sold within 4 days.

[RE-POST] How do you like to get things done?

This is a re-post of How do you like to get things done?, which was published on Friday 01 November 2019 at 15:00.

I like to plan my day as much as I possibly can, but be flexible when it comes to my plans. Where I can, I complete the boring or disliked jobs first, so my day becomes more enjoyable as my day goes on. At the end of the day, I look back on the day to see how well I have done, what I have learnt and plan for the next day with my priorities.

[INTERVIEW QUESTION] If I were to give you this salary you requested but let you write your job description for the next year, what would it say?

I would look back on what jobs I have had, then ask you what other skills I will need for other tasks.

I would then work out the 80% I am capable of doing, and work hard towards learning the other 20%.

We always learn new things.

I use Key Competencies for every position that I am in. To see what Key Competencies I have completed, check out my Key Competencies contents page. Also, to see what I have completed at my previous employment, check out My Previous Employment contents page.

Reflections of 2022 (Part 1)

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of myself when I completed as much agency work within the construction industry as possible, especially at the early stages of the year.

I have met and worked with many different people on different sites and the horse were typically 07:30 to 16:30, plus the occasional overtime.

You can find out what I did on different sites at different Recruitment Agencies by checking My Previous History.

What skills did you acquire?

The biggest skill I acquired in 2022 was when I operated a lift, covering all 9 floors of the new Town Hall.

What do you wish you did differently?

I feel that I should have put my foot down more when it came to my job search. I found that as slacking quite a bit especially near the end of the year.

I will be planning more of my job search on a weekly basis. Normally I go through my e-mails and Job Boards every day. However, the latter part 2022, I wasn’t doing I do these as much as I should have done. So for the time being I will be checking my e-mails and Job Boards every other day to get these tasks completed quicker.

I will also be setting dates during this first week of January for Company Hunts to cover the year in Crawley and Manor Royal. There will be 2 or 3 Company Hunts in each area for the year.

I will also be putting my foot down with my Key Competencies, as I really need to catch up with them.

What went better / harder than you expected?

The hardest part for me during 2022 was when the construction work went flat for about the last 3 month, where I had very little or no work.

On the flip side, when I was working on the Evri (formally Hermes) site, one of the Site Managers, Lee, asked me if I could be the Key Holder for the site until a Security Guard arrived. I agreed. Though, I was left on my own and everyone else went home, I did not mind as I learnt a bit more money.

Where, or what, do you feel most at peace?

I feel at peace around family and my fiancée, as my family are supportive of my fiancée. My fiancée is also very supportive of me too.

Next Week’s Plans: w.b. 02/01/23

After Christmas and New Year, I will be getting back on track as much as possible, hoping that the construction industry picks up quickly.

To get there, I will be:

  • Going through e-mails every other day.
  • Looking on Job Boards (Indeed and Total Jobs) every day.
  • Setting dates for Company Hunts (on foot) within the Crawley area.
  • Getting more Key Competencies completed, with help from my connections via LinkedIn, calls and messages.
  • Getting shorter blog posts typed and scheduled onto my blog to get as far ahead as possible.

[RE-POST] Organisational Skills: RBLI

This is a re-post of Organisational Skills: RBLI, which was published on Thursday 19 December 2019 at 09:00.

Jobs pinned to boards in the office ran out of date, or got very close to it and job coaches were too busy to update them.

I needed to do my part in keeping up with changing and updating the board with new jobs.

I looked on the boards  and took down that have past their closing dates and those that closed that day. I then took note of the different sectors and how many spaces there were available. From there, I looked on Job Boards like CV-Library, Indeed and Total Jobs for jobs that went into those different sectors. I printed off suitable jobs and pinned them to the board in the correct sectors. I e-mailed the other volunteer to let her know that I have completed this task and what else needed to be done.

I kept the board updated  with jobs, so clients could apply for suitable jobs for themselves.

Next Week’s Plans: 26/12/22

I’m happy with what I’ve done over the last week, considering it is Christmas week.

I feel that the main thing I’ll be doing for the forthcoming week is to get blogging back up and running better, as my blogging has suffered the most.

However, I will still go through my e-mails a few times over the next week.
