What Have I done in July 2019?

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Hope you are all well?

I did much more in July than I thought I would. Here is what I did during July, so have a look:

LinkedIn

Once again, I managed to document on what I did on LinkedIn, even though LinkedIn is still very slow. I posted 94 times, commented 73 times on both others’ posts as well as my own, and liked 135 posts and comments. The most viewed post of mine on LinkedIn were:

Due to LinkedIn still being pretty slow, I am only able to go back so far for the number of views on my posts. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Company Hunts & CV Drops

I have completed three Company Hunts over the telephone in July for the Manor Royal area on Friday 05 July 2019 with responsesWednesday 10 July 2019 with responses and Wednesday 17 July 2019. The first two were via e-mail and the last one was via telephone calls. I have since then written a Conclusion for all of them, as part of Manor Royal: Tell Us Your Story, after seeing one of my amazing connections at Crawley Library.

Job Fairs

I attended one job fair this month called The Crawley Jobs Fair. I found it quite interesting, even though there was nothing suitable for me.

Blogging

In July, I had written and published 73 blog posts, where there were 122 views from 78 visitors with 20 likes and 1 comment.

Once again, the views were very evenly spread out last month and are still quite low. I would LOVE to see the stats go up more than they have been. So, let’s see how high we can get the views, and by all means, ask me any relevant questions to to any of the blog posts.

The top three countries where my blog posts were viewed from were United Kingdom (85 views), United States (21 views), Singapore (4 views), India (3 views), France (2 views), Romania (2 views), Hong Kong SAR China (2 views), South Africa (1 view), Ireland (1 view) and Indonesia (1 view).

On Saturday 13 July 2019, I had beaten the record of most likes on one day. It went from 5 to 6.

Interviews

After not receiving the telephone job interview last month, I decided that I would visit the manager of the shop. I had an interview face-to-face with her. They declined on Monday 22 July 2019.

I also signed up to two Recruitment Agencies, The Best Connection and Talented People Solution.

Conclusion

I have been as active as I possibly can, but I feel that I’m still not getting anywhere. I have found that most applications I make don’t respond, even after I have followed up with them.

However, I will not be giving up with out a fight. I will continue working as hard as I can to find suitable employment. I will be planning several more Company Hunts in form of calls and visits.

I would like to thank everybody who has helped me during July, and I am hoping that I can help you all in one way or another.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I am looking to interview professionals in various departments from different sectors, so please reach out to me by LinkedIn, Twitter or e-mail (visitjamiebennett@gmail.com).

Tomorrow’s Plans

First thing that I will be doing is going through my e-mails from job boards to see if there is anything suitable for me to apply for.

I think I might be able to complete more research on companies, like company names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses, so I can complete another Company Hunt.

I will also go through my Activity on LinkedIn as much as possible for my LinkedIn Weekly, which will be published on tomorrow at 15:00, as I usually do. I will then try to get other blogging dealt with, by typing and scheduling as many blog posts as possible, ready for next week.

Conclusion

For blogging planning for next week, I am already covered for Monday. So is Tuesday, but one of the blog posts is what I call a rolling blog post, which is my Job Search Weekly, which I update every day with all of the job search I have completed.

For Wednesday, I have one space spare, but I am hoping that I will be able to see Christina’s Question of the Day early enough, so I can fit it in there.

As Thursday is the beginning of a new month, I have got to plan a “What Have I Done” post, which I will start planning on early Wednesday. I currently have one space available at 15:00, so something could potentially be slipping in there. I will also be planning things to do on Friday.

Friday has been planned already

Manor Royal: Tell Us Your Story

Introduction

I saw an amazing connection I know at Crawley Library in the early afternoon of Saturday 20 July 2019, Steve, and I met Richard. We discussed the TELL US YOUR STORY they have planned, for a heritage arts trail project for the district.

My Story

Here’s my story, as a conclusion of the Company Hunts I have recently completed, as part of my job search.

I have been an active job seeker since the end of February, after being made redundant.

I completed two Company Hunts via e-mails from a list of companies (with e-mail addresses included) I researched for the last time I was actively seeking new employment opportunities.

I e-mailed companies on Friday 05 July 2019 and Wednesday 10 July 2019 to enquire about vacancies, how to apply and who to contact when applying for vacancies.

Since then, I have completed a blog post for each Company Hunt for the responses I had received. Responses: Friday 05 July 2019 and Responses: Wednesday 10 July 2019.

Since then, I have completed a Company Hunt via telephone on Wednesday 17 July 2019 to enquire about vacancies, how to apply and who to contact when applying for vacancies.

Conclusion

Even though I dislike doing Company Hunts via e-mail and telephone, they were both other ways of staying active as a job seeker.

Personally, I prefer communicating with others face-to-face, as I can see them and they can see me, and also see how each other reacts.

There’s no rest for the wicked.

Thursday’s plans (18/07/19)

Tomorrow, I will be going through my e-mails and LinkedIn messages and notifications.

I will then look on the company websites of those companies who I spoke to today, via the Company Hunt, to find if any of them have suitable vacancies.

Following this, I will check out Indeed for suitable employment, before I do the same for Total Jobs.

Then, I will have my mind set on planning blogs and scheduling them for the remainder of this week and for the week after next. This is going to be exciting.

I Completed a Company Hunt and Here’s What Happened 27/06/19

Introduction

Today (Thursday 27 June 2019), I decided to give several companies in Manor Royal a call to find out if any of them had any vacancies I could apply for, how to apply and who to contact.

This Company Hunt was to follow on from my last Company Hunt on Monday 17 June 2019.

Why did you complete a Company Hunt on yesterday (Thursday 27 June 2019)?

I was unable to complete the whole Company Hunt on Monday 17 June 2019, so I wanted to continue with as much as I could from the research I completed (company names, locations and telephone numbers).

Who did you talk to?

I contacted 9 companies via telephone.

2 companies required a CV, and they were:

  • Brymec Gatwick
  • Jefferies Farm – Car Supermarket (Unbeatable Car)

The one company who wanted me to search and apply online was:

  • Robins & Day Vauxhall

The other companies include:

  • Buck & Hickman Crawley
  • Copthorne Motor Company
  • Cromwell tools (Crawley)
  • Howdens – Crawley
  • Raven Roofing Supplies
  • Tates Citroen Crawley

What was the outcome?

Tates Citroen Crawley went into answer phone, which I refuse to talk to (give me a person to talk to any day). I will be calling them back at another time.

Cromwell tools (Crawley)’s telephone number was unrecognised. I will be doing some more research on Cromwell tools (Crawley).

Copthorne Motor Company requires a technician, but qualifications are required for this position.

I was surprised on how many of these companies were courteous and polite. Whenever I have had to make calls for a Company Hunt, I have had the odd employee be rude towards me. But I am happy that nobody did today.

Conclusion

Now, I will send CV’s to those companies who require me to send them my CV. I will also keep an eye on both Indeed and respective company websites for suitable positions.

I will also send my CV to those who require my CV from the last Company Hunt I completed on Monday 17 June 2019.

With thanks

I would like to thank everybody who answered the telephone to answer a few questions about vacancies. I do appreciate your co-operation.

Good Deeds

I have not noticed anybody requiring my help this week.

I Completed a Company Hunt and Here’s What Happened 17/06/19

Introduction

On Monday 17 June 2019, I decided to give several companies in Manor Royal a call to find out if any of them had any vacancies I could apply for, how to apply and who to contact.

Why did you do a Company Hunt over the telephone on a Tuesday?

I haven’t completed a Company Hunt recently and thought it best to do another one to gather information based on job search.

I decided to call them because it’s another route I could go down to find suitable employment.

Who did you talk to?

On Monday, I typed up the company information I gathered for 27 companies in Manor Royal, then yesterday (Tuesday) I called 15 of those companies.

The companies who require a CV are:

  • Gatwick Kia
  • Hendy Ford
  • HSS Hire
  • Treetop Design & Print Ltd

The companies who want me to search and apply online are:

  • Harwoods Jaguar Land Rover Crawley (Harwoods website)
  • Johnstone’s Decorating Centre
  • Lok’nStore Storage Crawley (Indeed)
  • Motorline Nissan Crawley (Motorline website)
  • Motorline Toyota Gatwick (Motorline website)
  • Topps Tiles Gatwick (website and Indeed)
  • Williams Trade Supplies Ltd

The other companies include:

  • Rentokil Initial
  • TLC Electrical Distributers (call HR)
  • TNT Crawley Depot
  • WH Commercials

What was the outcome?

Four of the companies required a CV and seven companies required applications online.

The other companies either weren’t sure of any vacancies, had no vacancies or had no option to discuss employment opportunities.

What will happen now?

Now, I will send CV’s to those companies who require me to send them my CV. I will also keep an eye on both Indeed and respective company websites for suitable positions.

Conclusion

Even though I hate talking over the telephone, I thought it best that I tried something different for a change.

  • 15.06.19 – Picked up 2 magazines that a lady dropped as she answered he mobile phone.

CV Drop (Manor Royal): 26/03/19

Why did you do a CV Drop on Tuesday 26 March 2019?

I completed a CV Drop on Tuesday 26 March 2019 because I planned this CV Drop when I completed a Company hunt on Friday 22 March 2019.

With me actively seeking alternative employment, I found before that this is the best way of getting results … JOB INTERVIEWS and a JOB that I enjoy.

Since the Company Hunt, I have send a couple of e-mails with my CV attached and will be sending a few more at some point today or tomorrow.

Who did you visit on this CV Drop?

I liaised with the staff with different job titles, but the companies who I attended were:

  • Tile Giant
  • Andrew Page
  • Mr. Clutch Autocentres

I demonstrated excellent customer service and communication skills to those employees who work for those companies.

After I completed the Company Hunt, I decided to continue completing Gatwick Road for both a Company Hunt and a CV Drop.

Was there anything suggested to you?

I did have a couple of employees suggest that I could sign up to agencies and do temporary employment until I found something more permanent.

I am not too keen with agency work, but I would consider it on a temporary basis, as long as the agency knows that I am and will be looking for permanent employment.

What will you do now?

I have a few things to deal with, which include:

✎ Write and attach my CV to the last few companies I attended on Friday 22 March 2019

✎ Penciled in a Company Hunt for Thursday 28 March 2019 and blog about it

✎ Penciled in a CV Drop for Friday 29 March 2019 and blog about it

✎ Research who deals with the recruitment at each company

Conclusion

I believe I successfully accomplished this task I set out to do, as I received the relevant information from various companies on Gatwick Road in Manor Royal.

I was logical in how I went about this. I started just before Subway.

I believe I was energetic and enthusiastic when I asked about vacancies, which I took accurate notes on.

What have I done in February 2019?

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Hope you are all well?

I did much less than I would have liked for February because I have been working. Here is what I did during February, so have a look:

LinkedIn

During February, I didn’t document on what I did on LinkedIn, but the most viewed post of mine on LinkedIn were:

Company Hunts & CV Drops

I have not completed any Company Hunts this month in Crawley or in Manor Royal.

Blogging

In November, I had written and published 10 blog posts, where there were 58 views from 34 visitors with 1 like.

The views were very spread out last month and Several were for Christina’s Questions of the Day.

The top three countries where my blog posts were viewed from were United Kingdom (38 views), United States (8 views), Hong Kong SAR China (6 views), and Germany (2).

Interviews

I haven’t had any job interviews last month. But I have been working for Streetwise until I was made redundant on Wednesday 27 February 2019. To see what I have been doing at Streetwise, please click here!

Conclusion

I am still working for Streetwise and it has been two months since I started.

I would like to thank everybody who has helped me during December, and I am hoping that I can help you all in one way or another.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Streetwise: Thursday 20 December 2018

Ahhhh … My alarm on my mobile phone did not wake me up because it turned itself to silent without me doing anything and I did not get up until 06:30. The Warehouse Manager called me and I did not even hear my mobile phone go off, but I called him back after I got ready to work to tell him that I was about to leave the house to get to work. I got myself ready and got to work just after 07:00.

I helped with the last part of the sort, carefully getting the parcels and packages from the conveyor belt into the correct cages without causing any damages, then I completed some general housekeeping, which included the sweeping of the warehouse to make it tidy for the afternoon shift.

It went very quiet because most of the sorters went home and I stayed on to complete the time I had missed. I repaired broken parcels by replacing wine boxes after a few wine bottle had smashed and taped up the boxes that I needed to. The Warehouse Manager got another colleague to move the forklift with a wooden pallet, so I could use it as a desk when I repaired and replaced the boxes.

I then dealt with the carded cages, making sure that the  parcels and packages were easily accessible by the admin team for when clients arrived to pick them up.

Reflections of 2018 (Part 1)

What are you most proud of?

I am proud that I continued to attend Purple Networking, a networking event at Xenia Lounge in Crawley once per month. I have managed to continually create new connections and maintain them. I can’t thank Stuart enough for letting me continue to attend. Thanks Stuart!

I am also proud that I managed to get two jobs within a warehouse environment in the last six months of 2018. The first was with Hermes through Streetwise* (an agency) and Streetwise, where I am currently.

Eventhough Staffline paid a little bit more than Streetwise does, it isn’t about the money. It’s more about the essential experience I gained which I am most proud of.

What skills did you acquire?

I learned that, whilst at Hermes through Staffline, how to stack cages correctly. Start building a wall along the front of the cage with bigger, heavier boxes, then securely place the smaller boxes further back in the cage and packages right at the back of the cage.

This way, everything can be transported much easier to where it needs to go without parcels or packages falling out onto the floor and, in turn, saves some time. I have tried to keep this going at Streetwise, without much success due to a different manager seeing things from a different perspective.

What do you wish you did differently?

I wish I could keep up-to-date (and beyond) with blogging**, as I have fallen behind on a few occasions. With me working early mornings currently and me travelling to Brighton for personal reasons, I do not always have the time or energy to keep my blog up-to-date.

To do something different, I could try a weekly round up of work instead of daily to save some time, or get a volunteer typist to help with this. What do you think?

What went better / harder than you expected?

Blogging has been more of a challenge for me because of work and personal reasons, like I mentioned in my last answer.

Where, or what, do you feel the most peace?

I feel most at peace at home because I like knowing that my family are safe and well.

However, I feel at peace at work because I enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.

I also feel a little bit at peace when I have had to travel because it is outside of my boundaries and I like to see how far outside of my boundaries I can go,

Conclusion

All in all, it have been a good year, doing well in some areas, needing to improve in others.

Customer Service: Unemployment

I needed to find suitable employment and I needed to know what vacancies were available.

To do this, I needed to complete a Company Hunt.

I selected five or six roads in close proximity in Manor Royal and researched what companies there were along with any suitable information I may have needed to know. I then visited each company, regardless of what type of company they were. I introduced myself , spoke about what information I found during my research and asked relevant questions, like:

  • What vacancies do you have available?
  • How should I apply? Are CV’s accepted?
  • Who deals with the recruitment?

I took handwritten notes of available vacancies, how to apply and who to apply to.

I provided excellent Customer Service and communication (verbal) skills, and companies were surprised with the research that I did. With the vacancies I found out about, I prepared my CV’s for each relevant vacancy and company. When necessary, I visited company websites to apply for suitable vacancies and visited relevant companies to complete a CV Drop. Any unsuitable vacancies I didn’t apply for, but knew somebody else who was a better fit for the position (right skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications), I informed them with the relevant information.

House of Fraser nears collapse

HoF2.jpg
Daily Mail, Monday, August 6, 2018, p76

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because House of Fraser is getting closer to closing down its stores and making many redundancies after “landlords drop legal challenge”.

Carillion losses rise to over 1,500

Carillion.jpg
i, Tuesday 13 March 2018, Number 2,277, p40

Why did this article catch your attention?

This article caught my attention because 78 Carillion employees have been made redundant , meaning the total amount of Carillion employees who have been made redundant has reached 1,500.

How does this affect the 78 employees?

This will mean that 78 Carillion employees were made redundant and would need to seek alternative employment opportunities.

Whilst they are actively seeking new employment opportunities, they should be able to claim Universal Credit (unemployment benefits) which is lower amount of money than they would get from being employed. In turn, they will not have enough money to pay for the necessities, like household bills and food.

Who else would be affected by this?

Not only would these 78 employees be affected, but there are others who are affected. This includes, but not limited to:

  • Contracts / Building Work: Someone, somewhere has signed a contract for building work and most likely started paying for it or paid it in full. Would Carillion be able to pay it back if they are unable to complete the work?
  • The Government: Without taxes being paid by the 78 employees who were made redundant, that will affect the finances for the Government to distribute where necessary.

What are your thoughts on the 305 employees from the different departments gaining new employment?

Congratulations to the 305 former Carillion employees who have found alternative employment.

You have done an excellent job and I’m excited for you!

I am one of the former 78 former employees. How can I find alternative employment?

As you should know already, there are different ways of actively seeking new employment opportunities. For example:

  • Preparing CV’s
  • Cover letters for job applications
  • Researching a prospective employer
  • And more.
  • To find out more, click here!

Conclusion

Once again, congrats to the 305 former Carillion employees who found alternative employment.
